Le Grange Gites

Oct 20th to Oct 26th 2014

We've really enjoyed our stay in “Bramble” and Bonehan

As we came to the area to go “birding” we haven't been disappointed

Whole area has been a joy to visit and we may well return to see the migrating birds again.

Loved to old town of Vannes and St Augustan which appealed to our cultural side not forgetting the “Megaliths”

Bonne Annee, Penny and Chris, Somerset, October 2014

20th to 27th September 2014

For a family orientated self-catering holiday we could not have asked for more. Thank you

Our days:

Sunday: Shopping in the Intermarche Requiny for food followed by a great day in the garden. The pool, games and cabin are fantastic entertainment for our 3 year old.

Monday: The market in Pontivy is full of great food stalls and some interesting things for our small Childs entertainment. The Faison Dore food was great in Moreac for lunch

Tuesday: Quiet day at the Gite, enjoying the facilities provided which are fantastic, and so child friendly, making for a great day

Wednesday: Carnac was our destination with a trip around the market and building sand castles. The sea was good; we can highly recommend the “Le Baobab” restaurant just back from the beach

Thursday: lovely trip around Locmine market, allowing for a good walk around this lovely old town, don't forget the camera. It was such a hot day that we had to eat outside, so opted for the Ville au Vent which was incredible

Friday: Yet again temperatures in the 20's so went to Josselin for provisions for the away home a lunch is the town centre, the afternoon was spent back at the Gites in the pool which was a great end to a wonderful week

Simon and Lesley have been great hosts, always happy to have a chat, and the animals have been a pleasant distraction when required for our daughter

Many thanks, Harry, Jo and Lottie, Aldershot, September 2014

8th to 20th September 2014

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The weather has been fantastic and thanks for the information provided in the Gite

We have had some great days out. We particularly enjoyed Vannes (fab toy shop). Sculpture Park at Domaine de Kerguehennec is well worth a visit; Lovely Beach at Damgan and the Aquarium at Vannes is a good trip too.

We also discovered the standing stones at Carnac (French equivalent to Stonehenge) another great day is Ile aux Moines; catch the ferry across to the island.

The Gite is a great base for exploring the area; Simon and Lesley are very welcoming and more than happy to help with anything.

Our daughter has thoroughly enjoyed the garden and pool, practising her swimming. She loved hiding out in the shed doing some colouring while we relaxed knowing she could not escape. She enjoyed feeding Daisy the rabbit, who is know probably a lot bigger since our arrival, she got upset when asked if she could take daisy home and we told her no

We would highly recommend the Gites to our friends and family and visit again in the future.

Thanks for making our holiday a great one

Rachel, Antony and Isabel (2yrs and 10 months), Gloucestershire, September 2014

6th to 20th September 2014

We have had a fab two weeks holiday and apart form a little rain shower one morning we have been blessed with prefect weather.

Places we visited include, Naizin, Locmine, Vannes, Quiberon, Pontivy, Etel, Reguiny, Radenac, Ile aux Moines.

A must visit if you like Romans / Medieval etc is Puy Du Fou – it is about 2.5 hours drive but worth it – you can stay in the hotel overnight which is the best idea as you need 2 days.

Quiberon beach is beautiful and perfect for the kids to play, the shopping is good as well.

Lantern Rouge is a Chinese restaurant worth a visit

The Gites are well maintained with everything you need.

Simon and Lesley are helpful (thank you for organising my flowers and champagne for our anniversary)

Hubby enjoyed the fishing lakes, as did the boys.

All the produce we purchased from Simon and Lesley was beautiful

Kids are well thought of with regards to the Poll and Play areas – Our boys didn't want to leave

Many thanks again

Hope to be back in the near future

The Owens, Southampton, September 2014

All my comments are in the six verse saga I left with Lesley (below)

A thank you to Simon and Lesley

Whoop!, here I am, I’m back here again,
Smiling faces of friends, we drive in and then.
The old familiar Gite, like a real second home,
Fishing spots to enjoy and new places to roam.
Here we are, now our bait is all sorted and brought,
The tactics fill our head with a myriad of thought.
Don’t drink too much Pastis, to mess up is a sin,
You’ll ruin the fishing if you slip and fall in.

******************************

We’re back home and we’re planning the rest of our week,
If the weather turns nasty we give them a tweak.
There is so much to do and so little free time,
And I must find a spare hour to finish my rhyme.
It’s Tuesday, then thirty, there’s a market to find,
At a town named Etel but to find it’s a bind.
Then a trip to see this other lake at a place called Radenac,
If the fishing’s not good we can still have the “craic”.

******************************

We have every single bait that an angler could need,
Now to top it all off would you fish come to feed.
Half of the fun are the tactics you plan,
And the confidence you show with your usual élan.
Not too many fish but the company was great,
No one to blame, no need to berate.
It’s time for consolation, a picnic by the sea,
A perfect suggestion I think you’d agree.

******************************

for our ultimate excitement it’s a trip in the Rib,
I’m like a baby wrapped up in his warm little crib.
Get the grin off my face, nah you don’t stand a chance,
One look tells you everything, my life at a glace.
I’ll report on the outcome in my next little verse,
You won’t hear a complaint, a moan, or a curse.
Just don’t lose the big one you silly old fool,
Play the fish gently, keep calm and keep cool.

******************************

It’s ten in the morning and we’re off to the sea,
The rods are all packed and the senses run free.
Now the boats in the water and we’re primed for a fish,
A Bass would be lovely; a big one’s my wish.
Simon fired up the revs once were out in the bay,
I hang on for dear life as I kneel down a pray.
This boats like a racer as it skims o’er the swell,
Thank god that’s the seaweed I think I can smell.

******************************

the finale was special, the red lantern Chinese,
a help yourself buffet, eat as much as you please.
Then the last taste was the sake in a quaint little glass,
And a picture at the bottom of a girl showing her wowee!
Now its almost time for departure, done for one more year,
We’ll be back, that’s for certain, no worry, no fear.
Next there’s Feb to look forward to, an adventure for sure,
When I get back form there I might seek out “the Cure”.

******************************

All very good again, Fred, Co Cork, August / September, Ireland 2014

23/08/14 to 30/08/14

Simon and Lesley, Thank you for being such wonderful hosts – so friendly and helpful – nothing was too much trouble.

A great base for visiting some beautiful places, we weren't blessed with the weather on a couple of days, but still managed to have enough to do.

Fishing lake is beautiful; we walked from here along the canal to Josselin.

Took the bikes to Ile au Moines (well worth a visit), and we went to the market in Locmine

The gardens and communal areas are great and the Gite had everything we needed for a comfortable stay

Highly recommend for our friends and we would like to return!

Thanks again

Tim and Rebecca, Ashford, Middlesex, August 2014

* Great information packs, directions and info on local amenities

16-08-14 to 23-08-14

The whole place lived up to expectations and with the family taken over all 4 Gites it couldn't have been a better place to stay.

The area was lovely, plenty to visit and the children loved being back at the Gites for the garden facilities and the Pool, plus Simon and Lesley were very friendly to the children.

Thanks for a great and memorable time

Thank you Simon and Lesley for a lovely holiday. You have been excellent hosts.

The Gite was very comfortable and the communal garden and swimming pool were great.

Our little girl also loved the chickens and rabbit, the kittens were a bonus

We will highly recommend Le Grange Gites to our friends!

Warm regards

Jane, Myles and Caitlyn, Kent, August 2014

We have had the most wonderful and relaxing week at Le Grange Gites. Simon and Lesley are warm, welcoming and not at all imposing hosts

We were lucky enough to have other children staying in the other Gites, which meant our daughters have had lots of fun playing with their new friends

The pool and gardens on a sunny ay is wonderfully peaceful and relaxing.

Daily trips to feed the chickens and Daisy caused much excitement each morning

The homegrown produce is well worth trying, the tomatoes were beautiful – in fact we took some home and the kids thoroughly enjoyed being able to go and buy ice creams!

As for the surrounding area, we can whole heartedly recommend the park at Moreac.

Kingoland is nearby and great for those aged 3-8 year olds

30 minutes away near Ploermel is Lac au Duc, a huge lake with a manmade beach, swimming, pedaloes, water slides and on a sunny day is definitely worth a trip

Finally we can recommend Josselin. A beautiful French town with lots of lovely restaurants and medieval buildings to look around

We are certainly sorry to be leaving Bramble Gite and will be recommending to friends and family as a fantastic place to stay

Best wishes

Simons garden produce is well worth trying

Nice, quiet and relaxing location, but within easy reach of some good days out

Would recommend visiting Branfere (fun for all the family), Kingoland (5-10 yrs ideal), Josselin (very pretty with lovely castle)

Kids had a good time feeding the chickens and rabbit

Overall, a great holiday, and sure well be back some time in the future

Thank you to Simon and Lesley

We have had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed every second of it – thank you very much to our hosts.

The kids have very much enjoyed the pool and play area, and the community cricket matches were great!

We found there to be an enormous amount that we could do with our family and were glad that we brought our bikes to ride to Josselin from the fishing lake – beautiful!

We have already booked again for next year and looking forward to renewing old acquaintances and doing some more stargazing!

Many thanks

Three generations of our family really enjoyed our two-week stay in Ivy at Le Grange Gites. Our Grandson particularly loved the gardens with the play equipment and feeding the animals It was good to be in the country but. within walking distance of Moreac. A brisk walk to the bakers in the morning was a good start to the day.

We had a couple of barbeques in the garden and self-catered for some evenings as dining out with an 18 month old can be wearing. We also tried the take away pizzas from Casa del Pizza in Moreac surprisingly good.

La Grange is a great base to explore the region we enjoyed days out in La Gacilly, Vannes, Josselin, Pontivy, Quiberon and visited the fishing lake belonging to the Gite and the sculpture park at Domains de Kerguehennec.

The local market in Locmine is particularly good and the fish stall is great, fantastic fresh fish at bargain prices. There is a good butcher near the church in Locmine. The boulangeire next to the small supermarket in Moreac is excellent. We found the Intermarche in Locmine to be the best in the area and the small supermarket in village stocked most things and has a butchery counter.

Don't neglect to try the fresh fruit and vegetables from Simon and Lesley's garden. We enjoyed the eggs from the chickens in the garden.

Amongst the bars and restaurants we tried:

Au Vieux Pressoir -Moreac

Good local restaurant that also does take away pizzas. We had Sunday lunch there, € 18. Food was good local fare with a couple of more inventive dishes. We would have returned but they shut for their holidays

La Fontain Au Beurre - Locmine on Southern outskirts

Much praised on review sites by French people. We ate on the more expensive menu? €36 food was modern and innovative We were disappointed that our lamb mignon was over cooked maybe our fault we should have asked for it Blue or Saignant. The food was OK but not a patch on Aux 4 Saisons

Aux 4 Saisons - Outskirts of Moreac

Great little restaurant, we went both for lunch and dinner Modern French cuisine, well cooked and delicious. The steak was probably the best we had on this holiday. At lunch times very popular with locals, two courses about € 19

Le Faisan Dore - Moreac near the Mairie

Great lunchtime place patronized by local workers. 3 courses with wine for just over € 11 coffee a few cents extra. Great value for a filling meal.

Creperie restaurant La Marine - Josselin canal side restaurant

Bit of a tourist trap but serves well priced tasty lunchtime menu and has great views from the terrace of the château and the canal. We visited twice and noted two regulars tucking into a great looking steak and bottle of wine each time guess their office is quiet in the afternoon.

Creperie les Mouettes-Vannes Old Town

Best Creperie of the holiday with great salads, crepes, "Wild Tart" and ice cream. Fairly priced for a touristy place and we noted several local "Ladies Who Lunch" in attendance.

The Central Bar- Moreac

Friendly local bar. We were there the night France lost to Germany in the World Cup interesting experience!

La Pause Creperie-Locmine Center

Disappointing Creperie with very slow service. Only one waitress dealing with the lunch time rush so may be better when fully staffed

Les Enfants Gat-Thes-La Gacilly

A gem of a place just off the pedestrian area on the hill next to workshops and galleries. We ate in the garden at the rear. Food and wine were excellent and we had some difficulty in motivating ourselves afterwards to visit the Yves Rocher showroom to purchase discounted products. La Gacilly is the home of a photographic exhibition during summer months. The exhibits are scattered through the town and is well worth viewing

Tony, Viv and Family, Stevenage, Herts, June / July 2014

Saturday June 21 to Saturday 28 June

We have had a great time at Le Grange Gites, 2 of us in Bramble, 2 in Ivy and 4 in Cider House.

The Gites were spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything we needed for a great week.

Lesley and Simon made us feel very welcome and were always available and ready to help whenever needed.

The Gites are ideally located for visiting Josselin, Pontivy, Vannes, Auray, Pont Aven as well as many others.

We had fabulous weather and the pool came in handy for us to cool down. We will be returning I am sure.

Kinds regards

Sian & the rest of the bikers, Wales, June 2014

We stayed here for one week last September and enjoyed it so much that we returned for 3 weeks, which still seemed too short!

What an interesting region of France with so much to do and fascinating places to explore

The literature provided by Simon and Lesley is really informative and certainly helped to enrich our experiences

Fishing has been excellent with 10 carp caught ranging between 7 lbs and 21 lbs and numerous tench.

Trevor spent an excellent day sea fishing with Simon on his boat and they caught 20 Sea Bass using a lure and light fishing gear, which gave great sport.

We visited local golf courses four times, our favourite being Rimaison, near Pontivy, where for 32 euros you can play all day and come and go as you please, breaking for lunch in a nearby town, if you wish – very relaxed with an English speaking green keeper

We have enjoyed eating Simons home grown produce and free range eggs. It has been great fun feeding the chickens and rabbit

We have eaten at local restaurants at Reguiny (Hotel) and Moreac (Le Faison Dore) where you can eat a 4 course meal including wine or cider at lunch-time for between 11.50 and 12.00 euros. Delicious food and excellent value.

Lesley and Simon have made us feel very welcome and very much at home, they are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

We look forward to retuning, Thanks for making our stay so memorable

Valerie and Trevor, Torquay, Devon, May / June 2014

We have really enjoyed our 2 weeks in Moreac

The house and garden were ideal.

May (2 ½) loved the freedom of the secure and well-equipped garden. She spent her time going from the slide to the trampoline and into the pool.

Every day had to include a visit to the chickies and Rabbit with a bowl full of food!

Moreac was a great base for day trips – so much to see within a 30 min drive.

We saw- Vannes (aquarium and market)

•  Rennes

•  Domain de Kerguehennec

•  Josselin

•  Carnac

•  Parc du Petit Delire (excellent!)

•  Kingoland (more suited to children 3 year plus)

Simon and Lesley were very welcoming and helpful, whether it was providing a last minute Fathers Day card or helping us find a doctor for our sick 7 month old. We really appreciated it.

Hopefully we will return again, many thanks,

Eamonn, Marie, May (2 ½) and Nina (7 Months), Cork, Ireland, June 2014

Simon and Lesley

We really enjoyed our stay here and found our hosts to be very welcoming and friendly

Lots to see and do and hopefully we will come back again

Auife, Gene, Sean and baby Roairy, Dublin, Ireland, June 2014

My Mum, Dad, hubby James and Our two daughters Erin, aged 8 yrs & Mollie aged 6 yrs have had a lovely time staying in Cider House

The Gite has been perfect, very spacious, clean and everything we need!

The girls loved the outdoor area and soon made friends with the other children staying

Kingoland is definitely worth a visit, only opened a few weeks ago, just 10 minutes away and we all really enjoyed our day there, although advice is to take your own picnic as we had to wait for food

Thank you so much Simon and Lesley, very friendly and helpful and we will certainly recommend Le Grange Gites to our friends.

Kind regards from

Sue & James, Guernsey, Channel Islands, May / June 2014

We were greeted by Simon and Lesley on arrival and was shown into our beautiful Gite.

The children were over the moon when the saw the play equipment and pool out the back of the property.

We couldn't have asked for anymore, the accommodation and facilities was great, within a very safe environment.

Definitely would recommend to my friends.

Regards, Debbie & Paul, Wiltshire, May 2014

Great holiday the Gite, Ivy was clean and tidy.

Very well equipped with every thing we needed for a comfortable stay.

Simon and Lesley were friendly and helpful with any queries.

Kids loved the pool. We liked Josselin and La Gacilly. Good base for exploring Brittany thanks for a relaxing break.

Mark, Donna, Maisie and Tilly, Walsall, West Midlands, May 2014

Had a great week here, lovely weather and Sophie our daughter loved the rabbit and chickens

Would recommend Le Grange again and again to anyone

Colin, Claire and Sophie, Somerset, May 2014

Hi Simon and Lesley,

Thank you for your hospitality during our 10-day stay in “The Cider House”

As a party of four “senior citizens” we thoroughly enjoyed our time at “Le Grange”.

The facilities were excellent and totally equipped to suit all our needs.

The heated pool was a real plus, especially when the weather was kind to us.

The homegrown provisions are excellent; especially the “house special” jams which went down a treat with the bread from the village bakery!!

The fishing lake is really picturesque with some very nice fish in excellent condition being caught.

There are lots to see in this beautiful part of Brittany, excellent beaches, beautiful scenery and lots of places to visit.

Our particular favourite was the “Manoir De L’Automobile” near Loheac. Probably one of the finest motor museums in Europe and certainly the best one in private ownership and at 10 euros an excellent day out.

There are lots of excellent, good value, restaurants in the area. The lunchtime set menus being particularly good. Our favourite was “The Lantern Rouge”, an excellent Chinese restaurant in Pontivy.

Once again thank you for your hospitality, we will be back before too long.

Le Grange is a credit to you both.Wishing you continued success.

Vic and Penny, Eastchurch, Isle of Sheppey, Kent, May 2014

Another lovely stay thanks, very relaxing and comfortable.

Combined with some A1 meals make for a great holiday.

All the very best and again many thanks.

Phil and Olga, Cheshire, May 2014

We spent a lovely week at Ivy Gite during the first week of May 2014.

Moreac and the surrounding area are beautiful and very peaceful.

Recommend a visit to the medieval town of Josselin. Further a field but within a hours drive is the idyllic beach at Carnac for those long sunny days.

The setting of the Gites could not be more perfect for a relaxing break, and the facilities on offer in the gardens we're fantastic.

Our 22 month old daughter particularly enjoyed the "moos" (cows) over the fence, and "buggy" (Daisy the rabbit) and the "clucks" (chickens) in Simon and Lesley's garden which we fed and said hello to most days! We even managed a dip in the pool!

Simon and Lesley we're very attentive should we have needed anything, and had prepared the Gite well from a child safety point of view for our toddler.

Really good value for money and an altogether great family getaway in a peaceful and relaxing setting.

Thank you Simon and Lesley.

Claire, Jon and Bethany (Warwick), and Pete and Jan (Grantham, Lincolnshire), May 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Simon and Lesley were very helpful letting us get on with doing what we wanted without being intrusive – perfect owners

The lake is beautiful and Steve caught a massive Carp as well as Tench and Grass Carp

For people with children its perfect as a safe play area let's the parents relax on their holiday

We came as a couple, enjoying biking and kayaking. Lac au Duc is a must for both activities. There are also many “Velo Verts” so cyclists can enjoy the scenery

The week went too quick we have yet to cycle and kayak the canals

The Gite had everything we need and Simon and Lesley are well-organised providing maps to places of interest

Thank you both for a lovely stay
